What is Science?
Science is the study of the world around us. It helps us understand how things work, why things happen, and how we can use that knowledge to improve life on Earth.
🎯 Why Are We Studying Science?
- To understand natural phenomena (like gravity, plants growing, or chemical changes)
- To learn how to investigate, solve problems, and make discoveries
- To ask questions, test ideas, and explain how the world works
- To prepare for future careers and understand global issues (like climate change and medicine)
The 3 Main Branches of Science:
- 🧬 Biology – the study of living things like plants, animals, and your own body.
- ⚗️ Chemistry – the study of materials, what they’re made of, and how they react.
- ⚙️ Physics – the study of energy, forces, and how things move or behave.
🧠 How We’ll Work in Science:
You will:
- Explain what you find clearly using scientific vocabulary
- Ask questions and create experiments
- Observe and record results
- Use maths to understand patterns
🔬 Working Scientifically Means:
- Being careful, accurate, and honest in your experiments
- Making predictions and testing them fairly
- Using diagrams, graphs, and tables to show results
- Explaining ideas using logic and evidence
- Learning from mistakes and improving your methods
✅ What You’re Aiming For:
By the end of KS3, you’ll be able to:
- Understand and explain scientific ideas
- Use scientific methods and experiments to answer questions
- Apply your knowledge to real-life problems and future learning
