Build a change, not a list of events

1 · Learn

A focused narrative can develop around a character's desire, an obstacle and a meaningful change. Select details that contribute to that movement. A plan should leave space for deliberate pacing rather than trying to include every possible event.

For a story about returning a borrowed object, the object can reveal a relationship through use, damage or hesitation. The change might be a decision to admit a mistake, not an unrelated dramatic accident.

2 · Worked example

Plan: a pupil wants to return a cracked model unseen; a friend asks to see it; the pupil admits the damage; they agree a repair. Each event develops the same conflict.

3 · Your turn

Why would adding an unrelated car chase weaken this particular short plan?

Check your answer

It would distract from the established conflict unless a convincing connection and purpose were developed.

4 · Apply your learning

Write a one-page story from the plan, then revise one detail to foreshadow the final decision.

Adult guidance and safety

Teach from the supplied text and accept justified alternative interpretations. Do not invent quotations, audience reactions or historical facts. Whole-text literature, selected authors and poetry breadth remain unfinished core work. Exam-board assessment pathways are a later addition, outside this edition.

Write, draw or show your working. Use a mouse, pen or finger. This pad is not a submitted answer.

Not saved to your account. Download your drawing as PNG and your typed notes as TXT before leaving or refreshing. They are separate files. Do not enter private information.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.
