Preserve important qualifications

1 · Learn

Original report: A six-week evening-library trial recorded 84 visits. Some visitors came more than once, so visits are not the same as individual people. Volunteers reported that pupils with afternoon clubs valued the later opening. The trial cost 240 units from a limited community budget. A proposal recommends repeating it during winter, when travel conditions and demand may differ. No survey of people who did not attend was completed.

A summary selects the main findings while keeping qualifications that affect meaning. Replacing '84 visits' with '84 different people' changes the evidence. Omitting the limited duration and absent non-attender survey can make the conclusion sound stronger than it is.

2 · Worked example

A fair summary says the trial recorded repeatable attendance and positive volunteer reports, but evidence about wider demand is incomplete.

3 · Your turn

Why should a summary not say that 84 different people attended?

Check your answer

The report explicitly says some visitors attended more than once, so 84 counts visits rather than distinct people.

4 · Apply your learning

Write a two-sentence summary retaining one benefit and one important limitation.

Adult guidance and safety

Teach from the supplied text and accept justified alternative interpretations. Do not invent quotations, audience reactions or historical facts. Whole-text literature, selected authors and poetry breadth remain unfinished core work. Exam-board assessment pathways are a later addition, outside this edition.
