The same concern can need different presentation

1 · Learn

Original source A, a council notice: The footbridge will close for four weeks while damaged decking is replaced. The signed diversion adds approximately ten minutes to the usual walk. Emergency access remains available by the road bridge. Original source B, a resident's letter: Ten minutes on paper is not ten minutes with a tired child and shopping. I welcome the repair, but the notice treats a daily routine as a line on a map. Please provide clearer resting points along the diversion.

A formal letter requesting improved diversion support should identify the issue, give specific reasons and propose a practical response. A speech to residents may use more direct address and oral signposting, but should retain accurate evidence.

Form is not just a greeting and signature. Organisation, register and selected detail should help the intended audience act on the message.

4 · Apply your learning

Write the opening of a letter and a speech on the same issue, then explain two purposeful differences.

Adult guidance and safety

Use supplied evidence and allow defensible alternative readings. Do not manufacture quotations or treat model responses as the only valid phrasing. Whole-text literary study, period breadth, chosen examination texts and board-specific assessment require separate completion.
