lesson
Compare an idea through different images
1 · Learn
Original poem A: The path unrolled / a ribbon through the field; / I followed every fold / until the town was sealed / behind the hill. Original poem B: The road kept all its promises: / straight lines, white signs, a numbered gate. / I reached the place exactly / and found I had arrived too late.
Both poems describe a journey, but A emphasises separation and unfolding movement while B contrasts orderly arrival with disappointed timing. Neither image alone supplies a complete account of the speaker's life.
2 · Worked example
B's 'exactly' contrasts with 'too late', showing that reaching the correct place does not guarantee the desired outcome.
3 · Your turn
Which contrast in B complicates the apparent success of the journey?
Check your answer
Arriving 'exactly' at the place but 'too late' for the intended purpose.
4 · Apply your learning
Compare how the final line changes each poem's journey, using evidence from both.
Adult guidance and safety
Use supplied evidence and allow defensible alternative readings. Do not manufacture quotations or treat model responses as the only valid phrasing. Whole-text literary study, period breadth, chosen examination texts and board-specific assessment require separate completion.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.
Clear the drawing? Your typed notes will stay. You can undo this action.
