The endings in little and camel
Read with an adult. You can say, point, draw or write your answer.
1 · Learn
Say little and camel with an adult. Listen to their last part. Similar-sounding endings can have different spellings. Little ends in le. Camel ends in el.
You cannot always choose the letters just by listening. Look carefully at a word you are learning, notice its ending, then cover, write and check it. Do not swap the last two letters.
2 · Worked example
I want to write bottle. I notice the last two letters are l then e. I check that I have not written bottel.
3 · Your turn
Sort bottle, tunnel, little and camel into an le group and an el group.
Check your answer
le: bottle, little. el: tunnel, camel.
4 · Apply your learning
Write a label for a bottle and draw a camel with its label. Cover both labels, write them again, then check each ending.
Adult guidance and safety
Read instructions and shared texts aloud when needed. Independent reading must match taught sound-spelling knowledge; do not ask children to guess unknown words from pictures. Accept spoken answers before writing and revisit with more books and examples.
