What do the clues suggest?

Read with an adult. You can say, point, draw or write your answer.

1 · Learn

Read with an adult: 'Leah heard a crash. She held Dad's hand tightly and stood behind him.'

The story does not name Leah's feeling. Her actions give us clues. Holding a hand tightly and hiding behind someone can suggest she felt frightened. We explain our idea using the words, not a wild guess.

2 · Worked example

I say, 'Leah may be frightened because she holds Dad's hand tightly after the crash.' I use a clue from this story.

3 · Your turn

What might Leah be feeling? Give one clue that helped you.

Check your answer

She might feel frightened or worried. Holding Dad's hand tightly or standing behind him after the crash supports that idea.

4 · Apply your learning

Act out a safe pretend scene with an adult. Explain which action gives a clue to a character's feeling.

Adult guidance and safety

Read instructions and shared texts aloud when needed. Independent reading must match taught sound-spelling knowledge; do not ask children to guess unknown words from pictures. Accept spoken answers before writing and revisit with more books and examples.

Open your writing and drawing pad

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.
