Read the intervals carefully

1 · Learn

A line graph can show change over time. Read its axes, units and interval size before describing a rise or fall. A connecting line does not prove every value between measured points.

A timetable might list a bus leaving at 09:45 and arriving at 10:20. Its journey takes 35 minutes, not 75: clock minutes reset after 59.

Complete a timetable using the journey time. The 09:45 bus arrives at 10:20, taking 35 minutes. Another bus leaves at 09:55 and takes the same time. Five minutes reaches 10:00, then thirty more reaches 10:30. Enter 10:30 in its missing arrival cell; check by counting back 35 minutes.

Height record: day 1 = 10 cm, day 3 = 14 cm, day 5 = 15 cm Bus: 09:45 → 10:20
Read the labels alongside the explanation.

2 · Worked example

The plant's recorded growth is 4 cm over days 1–3 and 1 cm over days 3–5. These equal two-day intervals make that comparison meaningful.

3 · Your turn

Using the height record, find the total recorded growth from day 1 to day 5. A bus leaves at 14:50 and arrives at 15:35; how long is the journey?

Check your answer

5 cm; 45 minutes.

4 · Apply your learning

Draw a labelled graph of the supplied height data and read an adult-provided timetable. Distinguish observations from unmeasured estimates.

Adult guidance and safety

Model the calculation or measurement before relying on a procedure. Explain estimates, units and checks. Use a ruler/protractor and suitable diagrams where needed; text examples alone do not establish practical skill or fluency.

Open your writing and drawing pad

Write, draw or show your working. Use a mouse, pen or finger. This pad is not a submitted answer.

Not saved to your account. Download your drawing as PNG and your typed notes as TXT before leaving or refreshing. They are separate files. Do not enter private information.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.

Check a calculation · Year 5 onward

Use this only when your teacher or adult allows a calculator for the task. Show your thinking first. It does not replace mental or written arithmetic and does not mark your lesson answer.
