Speak and write · Lesson 77 of 77

Read your writing aloud and discuss it

Read with an adult. Take your time. You can say, point, draw or write your answer.

Let's look together

After writing, read your words aloud clearly enough for a partner or adult to hear. Your listener can say one part they understood and ask one helpful question.

Listen to the question before changing anything. You may add a word or sentence if it makes your meaning clearer. This is discussing and improving writing, not finding fault with every spelling.

Look, point and talk with your adult.

Watch how I do it

I read, 'I found a shell.' My listener asks, 'Where did you find it?' I add, 'I found it on the beach.' Then I reread the improved sentence.

Your turn

A listener asks, 'What colour was the kite?' What useful detail could the writer add?

Have a go before opening the answer.

Let's check together

Many answers work, such as 'The kite was red.' The added detail should answer the listener's question.

Try it away from the page

Read one or two of your own sentences aloud, or ask an adult to read your dictated words. Discuss one clear part and one possible addition. Reread only after you choose the change.

Open your writing and drawing pad

Write, draw or show your working. Use a mouse, pen or finger. This pad is not a submitted answer.

Not saved to your account. Download your drawing as PNG and your typed notes as TXT before leaving or refreshing. They are separate files. Do not enter private information.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.

Explore and practise freely. Opening this lesson or using the writing pad does not save completion or a score.

Adult notes · prerequisites, safety and coverage

Protect the child's authorship: suggest, ask and scribe rather than taking over. Permit speech, signing, AAC or adult transcription. Separate composition feedback from spelling and handwriting correction.

Read instructions aloud. Word-reading practice must match the child's taught sounds. The phonics pages support, but do not replace, the school's systematic synthetic phonics programme. Shared stories are adult-read unless the child can decode them. Re-read and practise daily.

These are teaching introductions, not a claim of mastery. Open the subject's coverage map and limits.
