Seasons and weather · Lesson 17 of 18

What is the weather today?

Read with an adult. Take your time. You can say, point, draw or write your answer.

Let's look together

Weather is what conditions are like at a place and time. We might notice rain, cloud, wind or sunshine.

Look safely from a window or with an adult outdoors. Record what you see rather than what you expected.

DayCloud or sunshine?Rain?Wind?
Look, point and talk with your adult.

Watch how I do it

On Monday I see rain and moving branches. I record rainy and windy. On Tuesday I check again; I do not copy Monday without looking.

Your turn

Can one day be both rainy and windy?

Have a go before opening the answer.

Let's check together

Yes. More than one weather description can fit a day.

Try it away from the page

Keep a five-day diary. Draw symbols and count how many days had rain. Tell someone what your record shows.

Open your writing and drawing pad

Write, draw or show your working. Use a mouse, pen or finger. This pad is not a submitted answer.

Not saved to your account. Download your drawing as PNG and your typed notes as TXT before leaving or refreshing. They are separate files. Do not enter private information.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.

My observation notebook

Look safely from indoors. Record cloud, rain and wind at the same time each day. After five days, count the days with rain. A short diary does not show the whole year's weather.

Tell your adult what you notice. They can help you write it. A prediction is what you think might happen; an observation is what you actually see, hear or feel safely.

Keep your notebook: use Download notebook before leaving. Nothing is sent to the website or saved to your account. Reopen the downloaded notebook here to add another day's record. Do not include names, addresses or other private information.

Explore and practise freely. Opening this lesson or using the writing pad does not save completion or a score.

Adult notes · prerequisites, safety and coverage

Never go out in dangerous weather or look directly at the Sun. Adult may provide thermometer readings. A five-day record cannot establish all seasonal patterns.

Use real observations alongside the diagrams. Supervise practical work; never taste unknown materials or plants, handle unknown animals, or look at the Sun. Return to plants, weather and daylight throughout the year, not just once.

These are teaching introductions, not a claim of mastery. Open the subject's coverage map and limits.
