lesson
Read, compare and estimate
1 · Learn
Compare hundreds first, then tens if needed, then ones. For 583 and 538, the hundreds match but eight tens is greater than three tens.
A number line can help us estimate. Mark equal intervals and check the scale. On a 0 to 1,000 line, the halfway point is 500, not 50.
2 · Worked example
I write six hundred and forty as 640. I place it between 600 and 700, closer to 600.
3 · Your turn
Order 709, 790 and 700 from least to greatest. Write 709 in words.
Check your answer
700, 709, 790. Seven hundred and nine.
4 · Apply your learning
Place number cards on a line marked in hundreds. Explain each estimated position.
Adult guidance and safety
Use objects or a drawn model before relying on a rule. Explain each step, check the units and revisit with varied examples. An adult can read the instructions without supplying the answer.

Your pad is empty.
Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.
Replace the notes on this page with the opened file? Download the current notes first if you want to keep them.
Typed notes are not submitted answers.
