lesson

Ten or one hundred more

1 · Learn

Adding ten changes the value by one ten, even when you cross a hundred. 295 + 10 = 305, not 205.

Adding one hundred changes the value by one hundred. You can use place-value equipment to exchange ten tens for one hundred when needed.

295 + 10 = 305462 + 100 = 562462 − 100 = 362
Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

3 · Your turn

Find ten more than 398 and one hundred less than 705.

Check your answer

408 and 605.

4 · Apply your learning

Draw jumps of ten and one hundred from different three-digit starting numbers. Check the direction before calculating.

Adult guidance and safety
